About islamic studies department

Arabic and Islamic Studies is one of the oldest departments of Govt. City College, Chattogram. From the beginning, Islamic Studies was affiliated at HSC level. After some time B.A (Pass) course was affiliated. B.A (Honors) course was affiliated in 2004-2005 session under the National University of Bangladesh. In 2011-2012 academic session, Master (Final) was affiliated under the initiative and effort of the former Principal Dr. Horisongkor Jolodash, Muhammad Afsarul Ameen (former MP), head of the department Md. Ayub Nuri, former faculty Member Md. Saydul Alam and former vice president of Chatro Sonshod (day shift) of this College.

The mission and vision of the Department are to complete the twin goals. Fulfilling our Islamic obligations with regard to worldly knowledge, as well as providing people with clear spiritual direction in life.

The department has an inclusive and world-standard syllabus to meet its mission and vision. Combination of modern and moral education, the syllabus includes all branches of Islamic knowledge as well as the knowledge of different relevant disciplines, i.e. English, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, History, Computer Literacy, Bangladesh Studies etc. This extensive study outline assists students to become good citizens of the country.

The total students of this department is near about 800. Every year a huge number of students complete Honors and Master’s degree successfully.

It has highly qualified faculty members graduating from the University of Dhaka and the University of Chittagong etc. The students of this department are happy with the teaching techniques and methods of their respected teachers. Teacher-student relationship is very good here.

We have a capable and strong counseling team for maintaining students’ discipline and academic environment. This team keeps all students in close contact and looks after their academic and personal well-being to make them worthy citizens.

Facilities:

  • The department has three classrooms with multimedia, smart interactive panel facilities, and a very rich departmental seminar library with a huge collection of Islamic books related to the courses, encyclopedias, journals, research materials etc. Students can study sitting in the seminar room and also can borrow desired books. They are always connected to online resources through a Wi-Fi connection.
  • The department arranges workshop, seminar, term paper presentation and co-curricular activities for the enhancement of their self-development, leadership qualities and confidence build.
  • The students of this department are involved in different extracurricular activities such as indoor games, debate competitions, cultural activities and study tour.
  • The department has a well-organized Alumni Association named AISAA (Arabic and Islamic Studies Alumni Association). It is the best platform for connecting all the students and sharing their emotions, feelings, and opportunities as well as recalling their memories. The Alumni Association acts as a guardian for helpless students and a proper guide for finding different jobs.
